NIHR
The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)
UCHD is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). Its goal is to create a health research system in which the NHS supports outstanding people, working in world-class facilities, conducting great research focused on the needs of patients and the public.

The NHS already has a growing international reputation as a hotbed for healthcare research. The NIHR looks to build on this further, to the benefit of patients, society, and everyone involved with the NHS.
The NIHR funds the Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care, South Yorkshire (CLAHRC-SY), which we belong to. The South Yorkshire collaboration is one of nine CLAHRCs across England. These groups:
- conduct high-quality applied health research
- use research findings in clinical practice
- help NHS organisations to use research, including continuing professional development for professionals and managers.
