ICL conference City University London 27/06/2012
Helena and Mark attended the Innovation Creativity and Leadership conference at City University, London on the 11th of June, where they presented some of the research methods from the UCHD ‘Whose Diabetes Is It?’ project: Use of creative methods in co-design with young people (with diabetes type 1) in service healthcare design.
The conference was primarily aimed at encouraging and demonstrating the role of creativity in strategic business innovation and, as such, many of the presentations were pitched at delegates with a business or commercial interest.
The UCHD presentation was well received, with particular interest in the ‘blue sky’ ideas generated by the young participants from Rotherham and Barnsley and the way in which they influenced our service design. There were three overall themes for the conference – Transportation, Food, and Healthcare.
Our project followed a presentation by PhD student Anja Sisarica, whose work is focused on the use of games, specifically board games and computer games, to help people with dementia.
The conference provided good opportunities for networking. We met Monica Ferraro a HCI Masters student whose study is focused on co-designing a learning app for small children. She was interested in the novel methods we have used to engage children in a creative research process.
