Andy Dearden is Professor of Interactive Systems Design in the Cultural Communication and Computing Research Institute (C3RI) at Sheffield Hallam University. He is technical lead for UCHD.

Andy has published widely on participation in designing information and communications systems. His work explores how effective design practices, specialist design skills and good design ideas can be shared to allow people who are not specialist designers to devise workable and appropriate systems. He has investigated how design can be applied in third sector organisations, can improve people’s experience of healthcare and can contribute to international social and economic development. He is co-chair of the International Federation for Information Processing’s (IFIP) special interest group on Interaction Design and International Development.
