Final BOSOP management meeting 21/03/2011

The BOSOP management group met for a final time today. Mark from UCHD chaired this meeting with the various hospital managers and patient and staff representatives who were responsible for guiding the project and implementing its findings.

The main reason for this meeting was to hear about some work done by Fiona Wilson and Maureen Ibbotson, two nurse-lecturers from Sheffield Hallam University. Fiona and Maureen extended the project by gathering more stories of using outpatients from older people in Sheffield’s Pakistani community and older people living in care homes (and their carers). They have produced a report summarising the experiences of these older people and identifying the issues that could improve outpatient services for them. Some of the experiences were similar to those we heard in the main project (such as the large amount of time required for an outpatient visit) but others were new (such as it not always being appropriate to use family as interpreters for sensitive personal health problems). The meeting then discussed the implications of the report for hospital services.

Dan and Simon from UCHD also gave a short summary of the impacts of BOSOP ‘in numbers’. For example, we have spoken about the project to 1420 people across the World from Sheffield to Sydney (and still counting) – you can see where on this map.
